A classic mimosa is part sparkling white wine, part splash of freshly squeezed orange, and part deliciously refreshing. There is no doubt that you have seen variations of a mimosa at your favorite local watering hole, or at an upscale eatery the classic mimosa. And this is one brunch classic that certainly needs to be on your at-home brunch menu. There are two theories about where the mimosa originated; in 1925 by bartender Frank Meier at the Ritz Hotel in Paris or by renowned director Alfred Hitchcock in San Francisco in 1940. Either way, we commemorate their brainchild at brunches every weekend. Other modern variations of the classic mimosa include sparkling wine topped with grapefruit juice, cranberry juice, or pineapple juice! To get you started, try the Blushing Mimosa from Perrier Jouët.
Much like the mimosa, the Bellini is a signature staple at brunches everywhere. The Italian cocktail is refreshing, fizzy, and just two-ingredients — Prosecco and peach pureè. This cocktail is delicious as a single serving, but it can also be prepared in a pitcher to serve at gatherings with friends or family. Originating in 1948, the Bellini was inspired by Italy’s peach season (June through September) and famously served at Harry’s Bar in Venice. Saluti to Giuseppe Cipriani for his creation! A simple recipe to get you started is 4 oz. Prosecco, 2 oz. Peach Purée, and garnish with White Peaches.
If you want a classic cocktail to serve as an appetizer before your main course, building a Bloody Mary is the way to go. Regarded as one of the world’s most well-known cocktails, the classic contains seven ingredients: Vodka, tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, celery salt, Tabasco and lemon juice. However, there are several variations like the Bloody Maria (made with tequila), the Red Snapper (made with gin), and the Bloody Caesar (a Canadian rendition made with Clamato). Many establishments serve their Bloody’s with insane garnishes like bacon, cheese chunks, jalapeño poppers, and even shrimp skewers! Everyone likes their Bloody Mary served a specific way, which makes it a personal experience for your brunch outing. Find some inspiration for your own Blood Mary masterpiece with our Bloody Mary Cocktail Collection. I would suggest you start with the Absolut Bloody Mary.
In 1947, a bartender (also genius) named Joe Sheridan invented the Irish Coffee following WWII. His reasoning? Americans love coffee and he was an Irishman who loved whiskey. Sounds like a good enough reason to me! Decades later, we are still enjoying his creative feat at brunch. The original Irish Coffee contains freshly brewed joe, brown sugar or sugar cubes, Irish whiskey, and slightly whipped heavy cream. Some of us just don’t do well without our morning cup of coffee, so why not enjoy the sweet java with just a little kick? Impress your guests with the Jameson Irish Coffee.
Read it aloud with me and try not to drool… Rioja wine, Brandy, freshly chopped oranges, apples, blueberries, and strawberries, a cinnamon stick, granulated sugar, and seltzer. What is that delicious concoction called? Sangria! This traditional Spanish cocktail was introduced to Americans in 1964 at New York World’s Fair. Since then, the easy-to-drink cocktail has become a staple at brunches and backyard barbecues. Modern variations include Hennessy Sangria, White Wine Sangria, and Tequila Sangria, and this wonderful Passoã Passion Fruit Rosé Sangria.
There are many reasons to anticipate warmer weather but we can all agree that brunch with friends or family is high on that list. Whether you’re into the classic mimosa or eager to prepare an Irish coffee, we hope you enjoy these perfect brunch cocktails in your home or in the sunshine this Spring.
