SUSANA BALBO SIGNATURE BARREL FERMENTED TORRONTES - Main
SUSANA BALBO SIGNATURE BARREL FERMENTED TORRONTES

      Beyond the Label

Produced by Argentina's first female winemaker and "the Queen of Torrontés," Susana Balbo has done as much as anyone in Argentina to elevate the image of this grape, treating it as a serious variety rather than an also-ran. This Paraje Altamira example is entirely fermented in new oak and a delight, with aromas of wet stones and white flowers and a sappy palate of baking spices, lime, and lemongrass. Using grapes from Paraje Altamira, Susana Balbo has invented a new style for Torrontés: fermented and aged in used oak for 4 months, the key is the mixture of wood and flowers. Varietal Type: Torrontes Appellations: Mendoza, Argentina Sub Appellations: Paraje Altamira, San Carlos (Valle de Uco) Practices: Pale gold with bright reflections. On the nose, this wine seduces with hints of white pear, white flowers and ripe peach. On the palate, it has a beautiful structure and acidity along with enticing fruit flavors. Plenty of body for a wine that shows such delicate aromas and flavors. Fruity, floral and yet still quite dry. 100% in new French oak barrels for 4 months Ratings: Robert  Parker (Wine Advocate)-94
