Intercept’s Head Winemaker Amanda Gorter is a native of California’s Central Valley and a graduate from UC Davis. Together, Amanda and Charles collaborate on each vintage to complement Charles’ distinct preferences while delivering wines that are bold, expressive, and authentic to the places they are from. 

Charles Woodson's Intercept Cabernet Sauvignon

The intense dark ruby red color of our Cabernet Sauvignon is reflective of this full-bodied, flavorful wine. The core of black currant and hints of cedar and spice along with cocoa aromas echoed by rich persistent flavors of plush ripe fruit, dark chocolate, and anise are all supported by balanced rich velvety tannins.

PAIRING: Pair with anything off the BBQ, steaks, braised short ribs, and lamb chops.

VARIETAL TYPE: Cabernet Sauvignon.

APPELLATIONS: Paso Robles, California.

WINEMAKING: When making Intercept Cabernet Sauvignon we target vineyards sites with well-draining soils and good exposure. This helps us create a juicy, full-bodied wine. We age our Cabernet Sauvignon in French and Eastern European Oak for 18 months.

RATINGS: 2018 Vintage won the 2021 Critics Challenge, 92 points, Gold.

Charles Woodson's Intercept Chardonnay

Intercept Chardonnay is medium-bodied with notes of spiced apples, citrus, and biscuit. Rich from barrel fermentation and sur lie aging, the wine has bright acidity with a lingering toasty oak finish.

PAIRING:  Pairs well with seafood (salmon, crab, octopus), roasted chicken, and fresh summer salads.

VARIETAL TYPE: Cabernet Sauvignon.

APPELLATIONS: Monterey, California. (100% Arroyo Secco, single vineyard)

WINEMAKING: When making Intercept Chardonnay we target bright acidity with a rich mid-palate created by the extended sur lie aging. Made from a single vineyard, our Chardonnay was brought in in the early morning hours and gently pressed. The juice fermented in barrels (a blend of French and Eastern European, 25% new) and stainless steel. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation and aged sur lie for 6 months.

Charles Woodson's Intercept Pinot Noir

Garnet in color, with aromas of strawberry, pastry cream, and nutmeg. This wine is medium-bodied with dusty fine-grained tannins and a long juicy finish.

PAIRING: Enjoy with grilled salmon, braised duck, or stuffed Portobello mushrooms.

VARIETAL TYPE: Pinot Noir.

APPELLATIONS: Monterey, California.

WINEMAKING: When making Intercept Pinot Noir we target vineyard sites in Monterey that benefit from cool foggy mornings from the Pacific marine layer and warm afternoons. Fermented in stainless steel with malolactic fermentation and aging done in barrels. Aged in French and Eastern European oak (30% new) for 14 months.

Charles Woodson's Intercept Red Blend

The Intercept Red Blend has aromas of berry cobbler, savory herbs, and caramelized sugar.The wine is full-bodied with fine grained tannins on the mid-palate and a long spicy finish.

PAIRING: Pair with smoked meats, burgers, or Spanish style tapas.

VARIETAL TYPE:  Red Blend (45% Petite Sirah, 22% Syrah, 19% Zinfandel, 10% Petit Verdot, 4% Mourvèdre).

APPELLATIONS: Paso Robles, California.

WINEMAKING: When making our Intercept Red Blend we targeted some of our favorite vineyards in Paso Robles. Petite Sirah and Zinfandel are at the heart of this blend highlighting two varieties that do well in Paso Robles. Vintage to vintage we will incorporate other varietals and districts highlighting the dark and most concentrated wines of the vintage. Aged in French and Eastern European oak for 18 months.
