Beyond the Label
This wine is made exclusively from the famed Bockstein vineyard which is a VDP Grosse Lage®. VDP. Grosse Lage® is the designation for the very best German vineyards (equivalent of the Burgundian “Grand Cru”). The sites are precisely demarcated vineyard parcels. It is here that the best wines ripen, wines that express a unique vineyard origin and possess exceptional aging potential.
Spätlese is the second level in the hierarchy of grape sugar level predicates. Overripe, partially botrytized grapes are selected by hand in the vineyard. The must sugar must have a minimum of 85° Oechsle (20° Brix). The wine is aged for about 6 months on the lees in stainless steel vats.

Scent and Flavor

PALATE
Wines that grow in the Ockfener Bockstein exhibit a floral fragrance reminiscent of elderflower, lilac, and violets and possess nearly salty minerality that is paired with the smokiness of slate.
