      Calera Central Coast Pinot Noir

      Beyond the Label

      Winery Notes
In 1975, legendary vintner and pioneer Josh Jensen founded Calera (Spanish for “lime kiln”) high in the Gavilan Mountains of California’s majestic Central Coast. In the four decades since, Calera has helped establish the Central Coast as one of the New World’s most exciting wine regions, while earning acclaim as one of California’s iconic wineries. Crafted using grapes from a handful of the finest vineyards on the Central Coast, this alluring wine offers enticing aromatics, soft, velvety tannins and vibrant fruit and spice. This Pinot Noir is nuanced and complex with a long, lush finish, making it a benchmark for the region.

      Tasting Notes
Sourced from some of the Central Coast’s most acclaimed Pinot Noir vineyards, this wine displays alluring aromas of ripe cherry and juicy red raspberry, with hints of briar patch and caramel. On the palate, the lush berry flavors glide across soft, supple tannins, with an undercurrent of bright acidity adding poise and polish to a long, focused finish.

      Vintage Notes
After a cool winter, the 2020 growing season began with spring rains that replenished the soils and set the stage for an excellent vintage. After a late-March budbreak, we enjoyed temperate, sunny days and cool nights throughout spring and summer, allowing the grapes to slowly ripen, while preserving the bright natural acids that we prize. With no significant heat events, the 2020 vintage produced age-worthy wines with enticing aromatics, lovely freshness and purity, and beautifully delineated varietal flavors.
