2014, the vintage we call Esmé (meaning” esteemed”), was a year of record-breaking drought with a few well-timed rains. It produced excellent quality fruit with great harmony and depth of flavor. Made with grapes sourced from Coombsville, where the pocket of cool climate is very important to growing well balanced, intense fruit. It drinks beautifully now, and yet has plenty of time left in the bottle. Our winemaker, Jason Holman, brilliantly coaxes a traditional Bordeaux-inspired blend from 5 grapes.

AromaElegant, rich blackberry, black currant and dark chocolate mingle with a hint of sweet tobacco on the nose.
PalateThe black fruits open with silky dark plum notes developing into a soft cocoa finish. Cassis and sage are present underneath the brambly, slightly smokey presence of Alicante Bouschet whose red skin flesh imparts the beautiful dark amethyst cast. The near perfect conditions in 2014 created a wine with significant structure and softer tannins.
PairingsThis intoxicating wine would enhance a meal of herbed roasted rack of lamb, rich potatoes au gratin and a starter of duck (or chicken) liver pate’.
