Gooderham & Worts was built on two things: guts and grains. Through sheer will, determination and ingenuity, these millers turned distillers brought their strengths together to forge something truly special early in Toronto’s history, before Canada was even a country. Today, the smooth drinking four-grain whisky they inspired is a nod to their grit, resolve and legacy while reflecting the best parts of the city and country they helped build.

Gooderham & Worts finds harmony in diversity. By bringing together four diverse grains – corn, wheat, barley and rye – seven individual whiskies and a variety of casks, it finds the perfect balance.

    Origins

The original Canadian Whisky Barons were creative entrepreneurs who understood the marketplace and consumer expectations. Through their innovation and investment in infrastructure, “The Big Five” transformed the distilling industry. William Gooderham and brother-in-law, James Worts arrived in Canada from the United Kingdom in 1832 to start a milling company. Gooderham & Worts became so successful, that they soon accumulated large stockpiles of mixed grains known as ‘middlings.’ In order to prevent the middlings form spoiling, Gooderham and Worts began distilling it.

In 1837, Gooderham & Worts distill their first whisky using wheat, barley, corn, and rye, from stockpiled grain accumulated from their milling business. By 1877 Gooderham & Worts is the largest distillery in the world with an annual production of 2 million gallons of whisky. As a tribute to the original recipe from 1837, a new Gooderham & Worts whisky was launched under the guidance of Master Blender Dr. Don Livermore in 2015. In the spirit of the pioneering millers, Gooderham & Worts is a blend of four diverse grains: Corn, Wheat, Barley and Rye.
