Rich, aromatic Cabernet Franc married to the dense concentration of old vine Merlot and seasoned with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon results in an opulent wine of great elegance and finesse. With a voluptuous, layered and complex structure, Lassègue shows an accomplished character, which reflects the limestone and clay soils of the hillsides in Saint-Émilion.

The ornate sundials adorning the façade of the beautiful 17th century Château Lassègue are the symbol of the extraordinary sun exposure throughout our vineyards and the theme of our label.

Notes of Scent & Flavor

  • Taste

The harmony of Merlot and Cabernet Franc is complemented by the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon in this red wine blend from Bordeaux.
  • Flavor

Ripe plums, black cherry liquor and dried cassis provide sumptuous aromas while hints of orange peel, toasted allspice, fresh cinnamon bark and dried tea leaf beckon.
  • Palate

A velvety, Merlot-driven mid-palate slowly opens into a multi-layered bouquet of red fruit, toasted baking spices, truffle and coffee bean.
  • Finish

An iron-rich minerality provides a taut, complex structure, while fine-grained tannins and firm acidity grip the palate to sustain a long and elegant finish.
  • Expression

This classic expression of Saint-Émilion offers a dual brightness and sophistication that will continue to improve for years to come.

Origins

Château Lassègue is located just outside the town of Saint-Émilion, a picturesque fourth-century village known for its Romanesque churches, ancient ruins and steep, narrow streets. The historic château was purchased in 2003 by Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke, who along with Pierre and Monique Seillan, set out to make it one of the premier producers in Saint-Émilion. At Château Lassègue, Pierre, a native of Gascony, applies his viticultural philosophy of dividing larger vineyards into smaller micro-crus based on variations in soil type and topography. The vineyards are planted to Merlot (60%), Cabernet Franc (35%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%), and the vines are 40 to 60 years old. Château Lassègue is sophisticated and elegant. It comes from hillside vines planted in limestone soils. Les Cadrans de Lassègue, the estate’s second label, is named after the iconic sundials that adorn the château.
