Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs 2002

Perrier-Jouët Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs 2002

$361.00
The House's rarest and most precious cuvee. The quintessence of the Perrier-Jouët terroir, in its purest form. 2002 was an overall mild weather year, the vines flowered earlier than usual.
The year yielded distinct and concentrated Chardonnay with a particularly elegant and balanced character: highly aromatic and wonderfully fresh. Strength and intensity also marked these still wines. Traditionally, we find a high proportion of Chardonnays from Grands Crus from the Côte des Blancs, such as Cramant and Avize, in the blend.

Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs is the quintessence of the Perrier-Jouët vineyard and one of the most accomplished expressions of the House style: floral, stylish, diamond-cut. Made from 100% Chardonnay- the favored grape of the House- sourced from the Côte des Blancs magic triangle, which has a rating of 100% on
the quality scale. Cramant Chardonnay have all possible advantages, including a pure chalk soil that retains water, delivering it deep to the roots and an ideal south, Southeast exposure midway up the hillside for maximum sunlight. These unique characteristics give the wines generous hints of white flowers and a balanced, refined bouquet. The 2002 vintage is a wine of surprising aromatic complexity, rich and delicate. After eight years’ aging in the cellars, the wine is balanced, with contrasting flavors.

The purity and refined elegance of the Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs 2002 cuvée is perfectly echoed by the seafood flavor of a carpaccio of scallops, enhanced by the juice of a Meyer lemon and sweetened by Tahiti Vanilla pods, or sautéed with lobster tails. The subtlety of this exceptional cuvée would be beautifully accentuated by the sweetness of freshly rolled potato gnocchi, with a dash of Szechuan pepper and covered in lobster cream.

Perrier-Jouët Cuvée Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs 2002 has a Wine Spectator score of 94. (Wine Spectator Dec. 2013)

Origins

Founded in 1811 by Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adélaïde Jouët in the heart of the Champagne region, the Perrier-Jouët House has gathered and looked after exceptional vineyards (classified 99,2% on the Crus scale) over the years with a preponderance of Chardonnay, perpetuating its expertise rooted in the region’s finest winemaking tradition. Hervé Deschamps, the current and 7th Cellar Master, perpetuates Perrier-Jouët's floral, stylish and dimond-cut distinctive style. The iconic Belle Epoque cuvée is the perfect expression of the Perrier-Jouët style and reflects the exceptional quality of the House's wineyard and know-how. Belle Epoque is enhanced by a remarkable bottle, specially designed for Perrier-Jouët in 1902 by French Art Nouveau artist Emile Gallé.
